Solid Energy’s forlorn hope over Pike re-entry – Newsroom

Hopes were high within state-owned coal miner Solid Energy that its fraught involvement with Pike River could turn positive with an unmanned re-entry. But, as David Williams reports, the $350,000 project will almost certainly prove to be a waste of time and money.

Tears were shed in March 2012 when state-owned coal miner Solid Energy bought Pike River Coal, the company that failed after an explosion ripped through the West Coast mine the previous November, killing 29 men.
